1. Jobs, Small Businesses, and a More Inclusive Economy

With so many out of work and so many small businesses struggling to survive, my top priority would be supporting jobs and small business growth, while working to reduce poverty so that all Stamford residents have the opportunity to find good paying jobs and provide for their families. As Co-Chair of the Commerce Committee, it has been an honor to help lead passage of dozens of bills to support small business growth and job creation across Connecticut and as a Program Specialist at the Women’s Business Development Council, I worked with women and minority owned businesses in Stamford to help them get access to capital. Building on these experiences, as Mayor, I would focus on the following priorities:

  • Launch a Stamford Small Business COVID recovery fund that provides grants to Stamford small businesses impacted by COVID.

  • Work to reduce the poverty rate in Stamford and reducing economic inequities.

  • Create workforce development opportunities to help individuals who lost their jobs due to COVID-19 gain new employment

  • Retain and recruit businesses to Stamford to provide better job opportunities for residents and better marketing Stamford as an attractive place to live and start a business

  • Modernize the process for getting permits and licenses in Stamford by reducing paperwork and making the process more digitally friendly
